Detailed Review
Atomic Habits
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Habits play a crucial role in helping us reach our goals. However, if we’re not living up to our full potential, it’s often our habits that are holding us back. Atomic Habits helped me understand how habits are formed over time and the patterns and pathways that lead to them. James Clear explains how adjusting the systems behind our habits—rather than relying on motivation alone—can lead to lasting change. By intentionally tweaking our habits to work in our favor, we can gradually and consistently achieve our goals.
Turtle all the way down
⭐️⭐️⭐️
John Green does an excellent job of explaining complex female emotions. In this book, we follow Aza, who is not just a typical teenager but someone living with OCD and spiraling within her own thoughts. John Green thoughtfully portrays the challenges teenagers face in today’s world and shows how OCD can deeply affect social interactions and overall quality of life.
Recursion
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Brilliant. A mysterious condition—False Memory Syndrome (FMS)—gives people vivid memories of lives they never lived. NYPD detective Barry Sutton is tasked with investigating how FMS is spreading, a pursuit that ultimately leads him to neuroscientist Helena Smith, the creator of a revolutionary device that is changing the world.
Recursion will make you question time, memory, and the nature of life itself. The story builds gradually, and by the end, it’s impossible to put the book down.
On the other side of now
⭐️⭐️
The Other Side of Now by Paige Harbison is a beautifully done blend of magical realism, humor, and heart. The story follows Meg Bryan, a successful actress who seems to have it all—until she realizes her glamorous life feels empty. A spontaneous trip to Ireland leads her to an alternate version of her life, one where the past looks very different and the choices she made begin to matter in unexpected ways. Emotional, thoughtful, and deeply moving, this is the kind of book that lingers long after the final page.
Deep cuts
⭐️⭐️⭐️
Deep Cuts is a great read for anyone obsessed with 2000s music. With clever song titles used as chapter headings, I found myself constantly reaching for my phone to look up tracks—many of which were new to me. The story follows Percy, an English major at Berkeley, who meets Joey, an aspiring musician, in a bar in the early 2000s. Their shared love of music leads Percy to critique Joeys work and eventually pulling her into his complicated relationship with his girlfriend, Zoe. And it turned out to be filled with tension, passion, and emotional complexity.
